Hello: C:\Program Files\IBM\Rational\DOORS\9.6\lib\dxl\config\formal.dxl I would like to override existing menu options based on usergroups. I can modify the files but is there a way of override them without touching the actual file; so that I can quickly revert back to the standard config? e.g. I would like to remove the option of creating a baseline. Thank you. EHcnck - Tue Jun 07 13:30:34 EDT 2016 |
Re: disable DOORS built-in menus I have a question -- Are you planning on implementing the change on every user that is connecting to the database? If not what is your plan or what is the point?

We are starting to use terminal servers while pushing legacy users to this new configuration. I'm looking at modifying the client with minimal change to the default config files. |
Re: disable DOORS built-in menus You have to modify the formal.dxl or baseWindowMenu.inc for the database explorer window menus. There is no other way. The other thing that you can do is to change the HOME for doors to a network drive so all the dxl folder is at the network or to a different local folder within the terminal server. By the way windows terminal server and doors do not perform very well as when you do an operation in doors the top window can just loose focus for no particular reason. Plus the start performance is really poor. You are going to have a lot of upset users. You can search in the knowledge base to find out how to change the HOME folder for DOORS all described there. |

Thank you for the response. If I move the files to the network, is there a way of gracefully exiting DOORS and let the user know that the client can't start if it isn't able to read the config files? By the way the only issue to date that I've see using the terminal server is "the lost of focus" going 2+ years using this configuration. |

Unfortunately, as there are some files that the client reads before DXL there is no way to gracefully exit doors if the network is not there. But you can use another folder on your terminal server C: drive which probably will not do the job for the normal PC clients. You just need to make sure that the client is always connected to the network drive, OR create an executable yourself that you distribute as part of the installation that checks for that connection (but I guess we are complicating things now). And is also the issue to distribute the correct dxl folder whenever you do an upgrade.
And yes that is the issue the lost of focus with the terminal server. Other configurations like Citrix do not have that issue. |
